STATEMENT ON COLLAPSE OF UNBOUND
Unless you pay close attention to the literary press, you may not have seen that Unbound, the publisher for our book A Passion For Passion, has collapsed, owing authors many hundreds of thousands of pounds. We have been badly affected by this and it appears that we’ll see almost none of the revenue from this release, including the significant pre-sales on the release.
Alice and Chris have recorded a full edition of Realms Unknown telling the full story here.
Alice says….
Working with unbound was such a hopeful and positive experience… until they ran away with all our money and lied to us to keep us on the hook until they’d gone bankrupt.
Really, working with unbound was quite a lot like being Cinderella if the fairy godmother said “you SHALL go to the ball”, turned your mice into footmen and your pumpkin into a coach, then sucker punched you in the crotch, left the pumpkin parked in a no parking zone and left you in a WhatsApp group with the man-mice trauma-dumping about the existential horror of cross species transformation.
I toured around selling hundreds and hundreds of copies of my book, increasingly aware as I signed each copy that I wasn’t going to see any of the proceeds. But they kept saying if they could maintain consumer confidence they could pull the business out of the hole, so it was like they were holding us hostage; like o staying quiet about getting fucked over might save us from the exact thing they were already (with full awareness) actually doing.
We do at least now have full control of the book (and we may eventually get some copies back that we can sell), but we have taken some positive action and recorded an audiobook, which is now available in the stores below.
I’m so excited to bring this extremely silly book to your ears; it was a genuine challenge to get through it without laughing, which was a nice surprise for me. I hadn’t read it since I wrote it and it’s funny!
